Baselworld 2011: Chopard Classic Racing Superfast Chrono Split Second watch

Chopard, the Swiss watchmaker that has given us the $25 million watch and has been paying tribute to the world of historical cars for years, has now come up with the Classic Racing Superfast Chrono Split Second timepiece. Everything about this watch evokes the distinguishing world of period car races. The split-second chronograph movement allows measurement of intermediate or “split” times, which makes it a great dashboard instrument for the lovers of fine mechanisms. The sport watch has the famous Dunlop Racing strap with a design that reflects the tread of the eponymous ’60s racing tires.

The strap is made from natural rubber and comes fitted with a folding clasp. While the dial reminds us of the counters on vintage racing cars, the minute markers on the flange resemble the numerals we have on the rev counters and speedometers. Attention has been paid to every detail, and the model fits perfect the brand’s Classic Racing collection that pays homage to the auto world. Other highlights of the Classic Racing Superfast Chrono Split Second watch include the tiny racing steering-wheel in DLC blackened steel on the crown, the grooves on lugs’ sides, the cooling vents and the Allen screws on the bezel.
The watch’s self-winding movement is chronometer-certified by the COSC. The case-back of the watch comes engraved with the inscription “Superfast Split Second.” The Classic Racing Superfast Chrono Split Second is limited to 1,000 copies.
